A Nightmare on Elm Street remake you will never see

I have to say, this blew me away with it’s awesomeness.

It’s the kind of sick and obsessive compulsive fandom that is channeled into something creative.

So what’s the story with the fan teaser for A Nightmare on Elm Street? Well, some years ago Michael Bay’s production company Platinum Dunes set forth a remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. And while fans roared about Bay ruining yet another cult classic horror with a remake, I wasn’t terribly opposed to the idea. In part because I’m a Bay fanboy, and in part because I didn’t consider all of their remakes completely terrible. Part of it has to do with the fact that the films that are being remade were in fact just as bad then, as their remakes are now. They just grew on us.

So as the production was being setup, along comes this Christopher Johnson guy with an idea that he should write and direct the remake. But as it often happens, tough luck. Samuel Bayer was attached by the production company to direct. Then Johnson when after the role of Freddy. Yeah, that didn’t happen either, as they cast Jackie Earl Haley.

But what did come out of his efforts was this wonderful teaser trailer. It was financed by Johnson himself, and was the idea of his agent Robert Depp. Since I haven’t seen the remake, I wouldn’t like to judge as to who would have made a better movie. I definitely wouldn’t go so far as to join the Facebook group supporting Johnson as Freddy. Because Haley is scary as hell in the official trailer, and I see him as a very good fit. Another thing is his complete and utter fanaticism this guy has for A Nightmare on Elm Street. I wouldn’t necessarily see that as a good trait when remaking a film. It just might end up too much like the original. What I do love is the passion this guy carries in him. And I would definitely love to see him do a film. Soon. But please, make it original.
